About this wine

Bastion de Camerac is a family-run estate in the beautiful Entre-Deux-Mers region of Bordeaux, where independent winemaking (Vigneron Indépendant) and respect for terroir guide every vintage. This Cuvée Carménère tells a fascinating story: the successful return of one of Bordeaux's original grape varieties to its birthplace.

As climate patterns shift, older varietals like Carménère are thriving once again on their native soils, producing wines of remarkable complexity and character. The vines grow on clay and limestone soils over rocky subsoil at a density of 5,000 plants per hectare, yielding just 48 hectolitres per hectare – a testament to quality over quantity.

After a rainy, sunny spring and dry summer, the grapes are hand-harvested in mid-September at perfect ripeness. The winemaking is patient and deliberate: 4–6 weeks of skin maceration followed by a minimum of 12 months on lees in stainless steel vats, preserving the pure fruit and terroir expression.

Tasting Notes

An almost-black robe hints at the intensity within. On the nose, expect forest fruits, warm spice, and distinctive liquorice notes. The palate is silky yet structured, with a lively "bite" that makes this wine perfect alongside grilled meats, game, or rich stews. At just 12% ABV, this is a surprisingly elegant and food-friendly Bordeaux Supérieur with real personality.
